The Routine I Daydream About
It goes like this
It's morning, I wake up. I see Jon off for the day and he goes to work, I feed Isobel and I sit down on this same couch with my salt rock lamp, 432hz ambient music and my loose leaf orange pekoe tea. Then I go outside and I feed, water, and milk the dairy animal (either a miniature Scottish Highland cow, or a Khatahdin Sheep) I then take the milk inside to put in the fridge to later be pasteurized. Then I go feed and water the chickens, collect any eggs and bring them back to the house. Then I water the no-dig gardens if needed and harvest anything that needs to be harvested immediately, leaving the major gardening tasks for the weekend. Then I go inside and eat breakfast, get ready for work and either sit down in my home office to do virtual work or I get in my car and head into the city to clean for the day. Then I get home, do my office work, and work on a handmade home decor project before supper time and then leisure for the rest of the evening.
Somewhere in there we're also going to the woods, sipping tea in the greenhouse, going to the beach and seeing friends and live music. There would also be busy seasons of food preservation and managing the root cellar, maybe performing live music again, and sauntering my handmade home decor around delivering it to folks when they purchase it.
And because I'm a shadow work girlie, I also know there will be contrast.
I've sat with this vision countless times, and meditated on the image and feeling of a homestead in such detail that it would be unreasonable for it not to manifest. I'm looking forward to writing to you from that space.
